Over the past three years, thanks to our generous donors and granting organizations, there has been much work done on the Root Schoolhouse. In 2019, the Schoolhouse was raised, the drainage was improved and the old foundation was replaced. In 2020, thanks to one donor, the building was repainted and the historic windows were restored. Over the past year, we have also updated the electrical wiring, replaced the back door, restored the globe light fixtures, and installed piers for an ADA access ramp.

We are currently raising funds to: complete the ADA access ramp, reroof the building, repoint the chimney, build an accessible parking space, install the light fixtures, build a front porch railing, and install a fire protection system.

We hope to complete the projects necessary for an occupancy permit by the summer of 2021. Once the projects are complete, we have an occupancy permit, and the COVID-19 situation improves, we will be able to enjoy the building on a seasonal basis. Stay tuned for news of upcoming events and ways to enjoy this community center.

Future enhancements such as additional driveway/parking improvements, kitchen counter replacement, ceiling repair, interior painting, restroom renovations, and heating will depend on continued support from donors.

We would like to thank our local contractors who generously donated their time at reduced rates or as an in-kind donation: Graham Webster of Webster and Donovan, Paul Derkson of Turning Leaf, and Blake Spencer of Spencer Associates.

If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, please see our donation information. Thank you for your support!
